Ready for the Studio? The 5 Essentials for Every SMASH Student

At SMASH, our rehearsal time is sacred. To get the most out of every minute on the floor, being prepared is key. We’ve noticed that the most successful performers (the ones who feel confident and ready to lead!) always have these 5 essentials in their bag:

1. Dance Shoes (Always!):

  • Safety and technique go hand-in-hand. Proper footwear is a must for every rehearsal—no bare feet or outdoor shoes on the studio floor, please!

2. Layered Clothing:

  • The studio can get chilly during notes but heats up quickly once we start the big production numbers. Pack a sweater and extra socks so you can adjust your layers as we move.

3. The SMASH Script & Highlighter:

  • Even if you think you know your lines, always have your script ready. Use your highlighter to mark your specific blocking and vocal cues as they are given.

4. A Notebook and Pencil:

  • Great performers are great listeners. When a director gives a note—whether it's for you or the whole ensemble—write it down! It shows you're a professional-in-training.

5. A Refillable Water Bottle:

  • To keep your energy up and your vocal cords hydrated, water is the only drink allowed in the studio. (Friendly reminder: We keep the studio a "crumb-free" zone, so please finish any snacks before you head inside!)

The Bonus "SMASH" Essential: A Positive Attitude The best thing you can bring to our musical theatre classes in South Surrey? A willingness to try, a "yes-and" spirit, and a smile for your castmates.
